Industrial Ear Piercings
When an industrial piercing is done, two or more tissue piercings are done and they are joined using a single long industrial barbell. This is done in order to reduce stress on the tissue. However, the piercings can be fitted with separate pieces of jewelry and can heal individually. While most industrials are a straight bar connecting two helix piercings, they are also often done vertically (sometimes more than one, becoming an ear cage) or through piercings other than the helix, such as rook to helix piercings or inner or outer conch piercings.
A similar piercing is the orbital piercing.
